Accelerator has been designed not only to track your cycling, mountain biking, motorcycle, hiking, trekking, climbing, skiing or just about any kind of outdoor activities, but also to monitor for any possible bumps, falls, or accidents using your iPhones accelerometer, and in this case, automatically sends a SMS message to your contacts selected in the app settings. This makes it easy for you to get in touch with your countrys first responders or loved ones to let them know where you are by sending your current location by SMS in a potentially accident.
Track your route, regardless of whether youre carrying your phone in your pocket or your backpack: Accelerator works in the background even when iPhone is locked; it records the path youre taking, whether it be walking, running, biking, riding your motorcycle in the country, on the highway or driving in a car. You can also keep the screen on with the topographic map in the background and see where youre going, allowing you hike through the mountains without getting lost, for example, because your return path will always be recorded and shown on screen (as breadcrumbs).
Accelerator can send your tracks by email to any email account so you can then save and use your route data comfortably from your computer.
For peace of mind, you can also share your current position at any time with loved ones via SMS, email, WhatsApp, Facebook, etc.
Accelerator can display not just Apples maps but also official topographic mapping and orthophotos from the US Geographical Service: the part of the map you need can be downloaded in real-time from the USGS servers and saved to the device to reduce cellular data traffic and / or to be used in areas with no 3G / 4G signal.
And lastly, Accelerators most novel feature is its ability to detect when youve had a fall or accident and then to put you in touch with emergency services: by monitoring the accelerometer data, the iPhone knows if there has been a crash or impact that might be considered serious for the activity you are doing (adjustable in the application settings) and then checks to see if you are all right. You might be wondering how it knows if it was an actual accident or just an involuntary movement made by your phone when putting it in your pocket or backpack: because Accelerator waits a reasonable time (configurable in the app settings) to check whether you have moved from the position where the bump was detected and thus whether it was a random movement or not. If you have not moved, an alarm will go off to find out if it was an actual accident.
This is especially useful if you do your leisure activity alone, such as if you ride your motorbike by yourself.
Warning: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
